Functional Bags: How to Get the Most Out of a Workout?

Sacos Funcionais: Como tirar o máximo proveito num treino?

“Strength” or “power” are words that often come to mind when we talk about “Functional Bags”. Usually associated with Functional Training, this type of equipment is designed to improve athletes' mobility and explosiveness through exercises that challenge the entire body.

But within a training plan, is it possible to get more out of these bags? And if so, how? That is what we will focus on in this article.

The Power of a Functional Bag

For a beginner athlete, lifting a Functional Bag, whether a Bulgarian or a Power Bag, can be, at the very least, uninteresting. But for an advanced athlete, this type of equipment takes on unique importance.

These Bags add a challenge factor to training that other equipment does not provide: while other equipment promotes stability, these add instability. Seen this way, it might seem negative. But it isn’t: the instability forces the body to seek a stable level, engaging all muscles and achieving quick and effective results for exercises that are repeated daily without us realizing it.

Besides the physical impact, Functional Bags also have a positive psychological impact, requiring the athlete to be more attentive: the instability demands greater focus to maintain balance. All muscles are worked, but the fact that it forces the athlete not to lose balance makes focus something encouraged. It is a way for the athlete to challenge themselves, also introducing this factor into training.

However, if you are a beginner athlete, you should not venture alone and start doing exercises without supervision from a professional. Due to their characteristics (filling), the bag needs to suit the athlete’s abilities: using a bag that is too heavy may cause exercises to be done incorrectly, leading to serious injuries.

But if you are a Personal Trainer, you can (and should) include the use of Functional Bags in a balanced training plan if your athlete’s goals align with using this type of equipment.

How Can BOOMFIT Help Me?

Here at BOOMFIT, we are always working to bring the best equipment, because our mission is to democratize access to sports.

That’s why our product range includes two types of functional bags, with various weights and made from highly durable materials:

👉Power Bags

These can weigh 5, 10, 15, or 20 kgs. The BOOMFIT Power Bags are aimed at training weightlifting movements, jumps, core stabilization, or rehabilitation exercises, forcing the stabilizer muscles to work even in the most complex movement patterns.

Filled with sand, the Power Bags have nylon handles that make grip easier.

👉Bulgarian Bags

Called “Bulgarian Bags” after their creator Ivan Ivanov, an Olympic weightlifting champion, they are relatively new in the fitness world. But the truth is that Bulgarian Bags are winning over athletes due to their results.

Available in 5, 10, 15, and 20 kg versions, BOOMFIT Bulgarian Bags enable training based on natural movements, improving mobility, explosiveness, and coordination. Made with materials that withstand continuous training sessions, the Bulgarian Bags also have 3 handles offering various exercise options.
