The Journey of a Personal Trainer, by Renato Mendes

A Jornada de um Personal Trainer, por Renato Mendes

Much more than technical knowledge, there is a whole work where discipline, empathy, and the ability to inspire become essential tools. A Personal Trainer is not just a guide in the physical transformation process, but also emotional and motivational support.

The BOOMFIT team met with Renato Mendes, Personal Trainer and CEO of Estúdio FlexFit, who shares his experience from the moment he decided to embrace this profession.

How it all began…

When asked what motivated him to become a Personal Trainer, Renato was very clear: “I’ve always been involved in sports since I was very young; it was a natural choice.” This connection to physical exercise thus became a passion, which later materialized by choosing the profession of Personal Trainer, and today makes Renato a very fulfilled professional: “When I received the first message from a client saying that thanks to me, they felt like a better person in many ways, it made me believe I am on the right path.”

As an “active voice” in many people’s lives, Renato has no doubt that the greatest tool is the motivation he passes on to his clients: “I know how much mental well-being influences feeling good about our bodies. Motivation is making clients achieve that.

But when we raise the opposite question, what motivates him, Renato applies a very clear strategy: “I have exactly that, a routine. Every day of the week, regardless of anything, I’m training at 7:30 AM. It’s non-negotiable.” But discipline is not limited to training alone. Renato applies the same principle to his personal life, especially the time dedicated to family: “Just like the discipline to train, I have the same rule for family time. It’s non-negotiable.

Regarding the profession, there are obvious challenges, starting right away with the undervaluation faced by a Personal Trainer: “The biggest challenge is clients who don’t see value in what we PTs do.” There is also the “pressure” that Personal Trainers have to be in shape and to be an example for their clients: “I’m vain, I like to be fit and I make a point of setting the example,” he sums up.

The “interaction with people” is, in turn, very rewarding: “There are epic moments I’ll never forget.” And in fact, there are confidences and emotional support that make the figure of the Personal Trainer even more crucial: “Helping people achieve their best version through physical exercise and through the more intimate conversations we have. I feel that many clients feel comfortable opening up to us, and it’s good to have someone to share with.”

“Consistency. Consistency is everything to achieve any result”

For those taking their first steps in the profession of Personal Trainer, Renato offers a simple but essential piece of advice: “I would tell them to learn communication and interpersonal skills.” The ability to establish a genuine connection with clients is, for Renato, one of the pillars of success.

And when it comes to delivering a message that serves as the foundation for his training and for life, Renato is clear: “Consistency. Consistency is everything to achieve any result.

Final Considerations

Much more than guiding workouts, a Personal Trainer inspires, motivates, and profoundly transforms lives. Despite the challenges—from personal discipline to earning clients’ trust—there are highly rewarding payoffs, like transformations and unique shared moments.

For Renato, the secret lies in maintaining consistency and balance, both in personal and professional life. His journey as Personal Trainer and CEO of FlexFit is proof that with dedication and empathy, it’s possible to leave a significant mark in the lives of those who trust his work.

Enjoy your training!
