Today marks World Suicide Prevention Day!
With the motto – “There Are No Heroes, Seek Help!" – we have launched another video that calls for seeking professional help when the signs are not always evident.
Though the benefits of sport are well-known, sometimes it is not enough, and professional help from capable and prepared individuals is necessary to provide better support.
“There Are No Heroes, Seek Help!"

This is not a true story, but it could be...
The video portrays two men who regularly go to the gym. One of them always seems fine – motivated, energetic, and constantly encouraging the other. An outsider would assume he is "in great shape," both physically and mentally. But at the end of the video, it is this man, who appears to have everything under control, who takes his own life.
The message we want to convey is clear: behind a smile and a positive attitude, there can be deep pain, invisible to those around.
Sport alone may not always be enough...
We all know the benefits of physical exercise. Sport helps us cope with stress, improves our mental health, and gives us a sense of well-being. But it is important to recognize that sometimes exercise alone is not enough. When pressure builds up – whether from family problems, work difficulties, or other personal challenges – and persists over long periods, physical exercise may not be sufficient to relieve that emotional burden.
As Personal Trainers, athletes, or fitness enthusiasts, we often encourage pushing beyond limits, but it is essential to remember that we are not invincible. There are moments when the body and mind need more than an intense workout. They need professional help from capable and prepared people to provide better assistance.
Final Considerations
When we look into the numbers, we quickly understand the seriousness of the problem.
According to the World Health Organization, suicide causes 700,000 deaths annually worldwide. In Portugal, the situation is alarming, with 3 suicides per day, and among young people, this is one of the leading causes of death.
These numbers should truly be a warning. If you constantly feel exhausted, anxious, or unable to handle the pressure, it is time to seek professional help.
At BOOMFIT, we believe well-being goes beyond sport. No matter how strong or fit you are, mental health must always be a priority. If stress or anxiety is becoming unbearable, remember: There Are No Heroes. Seek Help!
Good Training!
