Cordas de Saltar: A fórmula para uma recuperação cardiovascular mais rápida e eficiente

We have already mentioned here on the blog that Jump Ropes are an extraordinary training tool for improving aerobic capacity and working on the athlete's cardiovascular fitness.

This time, we will discuss the impact that Jump Ropes have on your athlete's cardiovascular recovery, being even used to regulate all aspects related to heart health.

If you're not very familiar with this topic, we will share the necessary insights so you can equip yourself and thus inform your athlete/client about the advantages of this tool within the Training Plan.

The impact of the Jump Rope on the athlete, according to studies

A study from Bulent Ecevit University in Turkey concluded that a Jump Rope training program over ten weeks positively contributes to the development of motor skills. The study is based on a sample of 240 male children aged between 10 and 12 years. The participants showed “significant differences” in all parameters analyzed (weight, body fat percentage, leg strength, and maximal oxygen volume), which led to an increase in developmental progress in the children.

If the impact of this equipment is so great in children, it is possible to extrapolate to adults. In truth, the jump rope plays an essential role in reducing the risk of cardiovascular incidents by promoting heart rate regulation, improving it and allowing faster recovery. According to a study from the Biomedical Engineering Institute at Kaunas University of Technology in Lithuania, a faster-normal heart rate recovery indicates an efficient cardiovascular system and that the athlete is indeed fit.

However, this period increases based on factors such as age, a more or less sedentary lifestyle, stress, diet, or even genetic factors. The Jump Rope thus emerges as a way to help control this recovery, challenging the cardiovascular system and increasing heart efficiency. The American Council on Exercise (ACE) even says that jumping rope is “great for agility, hand-foot coordination, and footwork,” also helping to improve “bone density and whole-body stability,” all while performing a “wide range of movements with just one piece of equipment.”

How can I convey this to my athletes?

  • Demystify the equipment

For athletes who may be more skeptical and even for those who already trust your work, it is important to demystify the equipment as a “toy” or “a child's thing.” You should try to convey that the Jump Rope, when integrated into a coherent training plan, plays a fundamental role, especially for athletes with associated cardiovascular risks.

  • The "challenge" factor

The Jump Rope adds the “challenge” factor to the training plan, enabling improvement of motor coordination and working both lower and upper limbs, introducing an added difficulty that benefits your athlete. The Jump Rope should be naturally incorporated into the training plan, and you should explain the objectives intended to be achieved with that equipment at that time.

  • The benefits for the athlete

It is often said that the journey is more important than the destination. The same logic applies to Jump Ropes: you should clearly explain the benefits the exercises bring to your athlete and why that equipment perfectly suits the situation! As we always say: every athlete is unique, and exercises and equipment must meet the athlete's needs, not the other way around.
